Is There a Way to Stop a Train?

The pilot was injured in the crash, but was pulled to safety before the train hit the airplane. Every railroad crossing in the us has a little blue placard on it that says there's a phone number to call if there's an obstruction. The tower at the airport and the train tracks pretty much run next to each other; you would think they'd be able to get hold of one another.
