The Unusual Case of Protest Writers

Some of the really early attempts are just terrible. I think that's pretty usual. Artists normally start by copying the artists they love and through that practice they can find their own voice. Unrelated to this, but it's just something I'm thinking about. When we talk about the artists who are primarily protest writers, it seems like the people who listen to them would be that the tribe around them.
