The Battle of Maktan
On April 27th, 1521 Magellan sailed to Maktan. Approximately 60 armed Spanish, under Magellan's command, took longboats to the beach. Lapu Lapu and his men were armed with spears and arrows and machete-like weapons called bolos. The Spanish had armor, but it can only protect you so much. And the Spanish guns were slow to reload, and inaccurate.The natives found the Spanish vulnerable in the legs, and their arrows doused in poison and began to find their mark. Magellan himself was shot in the leg.
