The Myth of the Stepmother
The myth of the stepmother is a way of protecting the nuclear family, says Emma. Storytelling can help children make sense of difficult relationships or dynamics that aren't generally talked about and I think stories bring things that are often kept silent to the fore. In a step parenting relationship there's almost always somebody who's been heartbroken historically by bereavement - now most commonly because of divorce.
