What Happened in the Years After the War?
Austria was jointly occupied by the Western Allies, in the Soviet Union immediately after the war. It wasn't until 1955 that Austria was declared an independent state. What's known as the victim theory helped the nation set itself apart from Nazi Germany. By the 70s and 80s, a majority of Austrians were patriotic Austrians.
