The Resistance to Roundabouts in the United States

The Europeans have been using traffic circles in one form or another for far longer at a much higher percentage of the population than the United States has. For whatever reasons, the roundabout simply didn't become popular in the US. One survey published in a transportation journal found that most drivers just before a roundabout was built in their area were anti-roundabout. Within six weeks of operation, about half the drivers approved. And once the roundabout was in place for at least a year, the vast majority of drivers approved.
