What Happens When You're Not Going to Vote, We're Going to Do Consensus
The only way you can prevent the adults from taking control is to have a voting process and a procedure in which the children have real power. In Sudbury Valley, every student had a vote on that rule about no literate. Even if you voted against it, you knew that at least you had an argument. The first step always is mediation and usually mediation works. But yet those is that it doesn't, what do you do in those cases that it does? And so I want to distinguish between the kind of punitive system that occurs in our typical schools and the kind of punish-or-torture system as well.
