Is There a Perfect Divine Clockmaker?

We are informed right from the first that we have a free will. We can do what we like, which is one answer to the so-called problem of evil as well because you have a choice. If you didn't have a choice, you'd be automatons and God would be controlled. It's quite a sort of post-reformation or maybe post-enlightenment notion that there's a perfect divine clockmaker and it's his fault if everything's not lovely. I find that very enlightening.
