Most people who have ever used the internet started using it after the web had become the universal interface for the internet. They don't see the web as an application running on top of the internet, as they are like one fused thing. And so as a result, you lose that sense of traversing this global information intra structure and that has a lot of benefits.

Paris Marx is joined by Kevin Driscoll to discuss the networks and services built by volunteers and hobbyists on top of the telephone network before the internet took over the in the 1990s, and what it can teach us about the internet and social media today.
