Gleal means glue, because it was thought that glee cells just kind of held all the nurons together. But they do so much more than that. The astrocites are starry shaped, hence astro and they give nutrients to nurons. They help repare damage. And the oligodendrcites insulate the nuron in the brain by laying down this fatty, cozy padding called milon which is like rubber around an electrical cord or a snuggy that protects you from live wires.
