You can carve out a short window of time, just a few minutes, where you do like a first pass of your email and you delete or archive what's no longer relevant. Not everything can be answered or managed in the Walmart parking lot. If I read an email that requires more than I'm able to give it in that moment, I go back and mark it on red again. Then I plan a time to respond. But using some kind of visual, whether it's leaving the message on red or using a star or a flag or a folder to create a place for a certain kind of email that requires a certain amount of energy is great use of that principle.
