The Stereotypical Idea of the Melting Pot
When Zadie's family came to America they were only ever around Jews. Those ethnic boundaries in certain sections of certain neighborhoods really were continuous until World War II was over. Now you're living on the same street with people from all over the different immigrant groups and so the question is that creates this stereotypical idea of the melting pot. But if parents after three or four years of living that way realize oh little Shlomo is not going to be in touch with his Judaism as much then we have to hang out with others.
