The Importance of Political Thought in Burke's Life
Burke was a member of parliament and intermittently a member of government. His politics were shaped by his engagement with the issues which bore down upon Parliament in the late 18th century. So I had to be interested in the daily practicalities of that career. That changed not only the intellectual purview of the book, but also its source base rather dramatically.
