Is It All About Works?

I suppose for someone coming to this book for the first time particularly someone who doesn't really have much of a reference point for Christianity. I think Lewis is actually engaging with a kind of cultural mindset which is saying look we're decent people. We do the good thing and that's really what our social obligation is. This one point says that we're very anxious to make excuses for not having behaved decent thing. If you like he is addressing a particular way of thinking which will have been prevalent and Britain at that time but it continues to be quite influential today.
