The Moon Doesn't Have an Atmosphere

It wasn't until like the 1700s that people were speculating about whether the moon had an atmosphere. The Apollo missions have a long series of experiments trying to measure things on the moon, looking for trace atmosphere and really finding almost nothing. You can basically use the sun as a probe of what's right around the moon. Those footprints that people left on the moon are still there.
