Do We Focus Too Much on Federal Legislation?
I was sitting in the Senate gallery when that failed by just a handful of votes and I thought, OK, the country's not ready for this. And instead, our very brilliant volunteers said, no, let's pivot and do this work at all levels of government where we live. We're going to pass resolutions through school boards that educate families about secure storage. 20 states now have background checks. We've disarmed domestic abusers in 30 states. We've passed red flag laws in 19 states,. including secure storage and police accountability legislation. So all of that work never would have happened unless mentioned to me failed.
