The Cost of Childcare Is a Factor in Wanted Pregnancy
Parents now spend an average of £7,000 a year for just a part-time childcare place. One in five told us that it was the reason they terminated a wanted pregnancy. We have even heard from parents who have had to turn to sex work and pornography to pay for childcare. This is a really serious crisis for families. It is key contributor to child poverty and it is a key contributor to gender inequality. And by the way, we're already seeing the effects of that falling school roles, closing schools, declining fertility, a serious long term problem.
