There was still massive poverty and unequal distribution of wealth in Chosan, but not, I don't think particularly better or worse than in any European country. It's just this place happened to have a really consistent dynasty which allowed it to develop like the kingdom in a different way from a lot of other places. But so they were certainly influenced by, especially by the Chinese. Most of the Western technological advances that happened during this area were made by invading other people and kind of stealing their ideas. So I really don't want to leave you with any sort of impression that this is any sort of backwards place.
