The Prenuptial Bath of the Kara Mycos
After a prenuptial bath, the bride was adored with her bridal dress and sandals. A meat sacrifice was then made by the father of the bride in front of both families. Men and women sat apart at different tables as it was customary for men to eat first. Women were allowed to dine with the men after they had finished eating. Little cakes covered in sesame seeds were also served to the guests. These were believed to make women fertile. Towards the early evening took place the Ectosis, literally meaning the giving out,. In which the father gave away his daughter to the bridegroom.
