Voltaire and the Business Ethic

Voltaire was a great admirer, as many of the Philazoff's were, of the business ethic. It brings people together for mutual advantage in trade. Their slogan was the one that classical liberalism would put on its banner: laissez-faire. This is the rule of nature as in fusis, the Greek word for nature. The world goes by itself. It doesn't need constant direction by the state. And these ideas became quite fashionable for a while. A man who was influenced by them came for a while, a leader in France. His name was Keargohans; they are not just names I wish to tell you.
