Arthur Lee and the L.A.G.'s started out as a white R&B band in LA. They would produce pastiche of Curtis Mayfield records, like Wumble Still Skins. The American Four also put out one single which very much wore its influences on its sleeve. It is often claimed to be the first Hendrix ever played on - though that's disputed.
