Aristotle's Theory of Motion
Aristotle believed it was important to observe the world without imposing any artificial constraints. This is of course antithetical to the scientific method which would develop in the 17th century. Despite Aristotle's appeal to empiricism and observation, he never conducted experiments. Eventually his theories of motion would be one of the first battlegrounds where experiment would ultimately lead to his ideas being rejected.
