King griffith wanted to torture and kill the young man for this dream. His family intervened and offered themselves as surety, hoping to allay the king's anger. The arbiter declared that the oldest and most long standing laws of wales have set out what should be done. And in this case, the man accused didn't deny he dreamt of having an affair with the queen. But if he had carried out that offence in reality, then he'd be fined and allowed to go free unharmed. So no torture, no executions, just a fine. However, since he didn't actually carry out the offence and just dreamt of it, a different punishment was required
