Film Review - Is This a Tarkovsky Film?
There are multiple Tarkovsky films where three men who like represent different archetypes go on a journey which tells you about their archetypes. And in this one, there's Kureel who's this ambitious but not as talented paper and Rublev the genius Christ-like figure full of doubt. The narrative of the film seems slightly to subvert the sort of seriousness of the shot because it turns out that actually someone's been out doing this dirty business with these paintings. What seems to be a moment of transcendence is actually a moment of people not paying attention.
