Lawsuits brought by white people who are challenging iqua because they want to adopt native children invoke many of the themes that have historically driven child removal in the us. Conditions imposed upon native people by settler colonialism are cited as evidence that native parents are unfit to raise their children. Classism and even fat phobia are invoked in cases where wealthy white people depict themselves as saviours, rescuing native children from unhealthy, backward lives.
