Jason Hickel is an economic anthropologist in the University of London system. He researches how different cultures organize their economic systems. De-growth is specifically about actively scaling down resource use and energy use. The more you grow the economy, he says, the more energy it requires. And that can't be done while we grow the economy at the same time.
