I Was a Performer Who Had to Learn to Write
I was definitely a performer who had to learn how to write. I look back at my first couple of shows and they the punch lines aren't good. And that's because it was weak writing hidden behind over-top performances. Tom stade said to me, this wants bit of avicement. If you really want to test your material a do your entire show, don't take the microphone out the stand,. Don't move your body at all, and see if the jokes hold up. Just keep it in the stand and stand there and deliver your lines like this, until you get your first applause bake, and then you can go. Yesy.
