The Dream of St. Peter's Burg

A number of poems that sheshanka wrote in h 18 forties have a strong political message, and none more so than the dream. It's a long poem in which the author visits saint peter's burg and speaks scathingly about the reigning czar and his retinue. He also recounts how previous czars, peter the first and katherine the second, took away ukraine's independence and enslaved its people. Some ukrainian cossacks were forced to work on the truction of saint petersburg, and many paid the ultimate price.
