Zakah: A Form of Taxation
So would you regard zakah to be a form of taxation yeah that's uh it's an interesting question because i think a lot of this goes back to what you define as a tax. traditionally it was understood to be a tax it is a tax on one's wealth and that's why the state could enforce its collection. When you think about it as a tax that a state collects the state uses a tax for multiple purposes right so you can build roads or all kinds of other projects but only very very importantly after the primary objectives of alleviating poverty were addressed would then zakah be used as this general form of improving society Right so you don't force anyone to pay their zak
