Marriage Is a Pre-Political Reality

In Catholic social teaching, it's not the individual that's the basis of society but the family. All traditional religions sees family as an obligation. And now if you ask most people what makes a family, they'll just say people who love each other - which is not a description of anything real. Marriage is in a way is a pre-political reality. It belongs to the natural law. It comes up out of our very bodilyness. Now, government can regulate it and protect it, but government can't define it.
