The Euroscepticism of the United States

The Americans are trying to say that West Europeans need to take more responsibility for themselves. They don't want a de-industrialised weak Germany in the heart of Europe with this new enemy on the border over in the Soviet Union, and obviously far into Europe as well. The first attempt is through the European defence community, isn't it? And interestingly, again, the same idea: Germany can rearm, but it has to be within a European context. So will Europeanise the German problem? And so that we can have a united Europe of some form facing towards the Soviet Union.
