Why the War for Independence Wasn't Just a War of Armies?
The War for Independence had devolved into a stalemate between the British and American armies by 1778. The Americans didn't have a big enough navy to protect their coast or dislodge the British from cities like New York. It really did come down to the land in the sea, even though our army was not as large as that of the British.
