In 19 forty four, dorothy anderson hired a young doctor from italy named paul de saint agnisi. In late august of that year, long before most people had air conditioning, a heat wave swept through the country. New york city was hit especially hard with record breaking temperatures of a hundred and one. Infant mortality doubled. And in the space of a week, several children came to baby's hospital with heat exhaustion. After exposure to heat, these children suddenly began vomiting and perspiring.
