"I grew up in Texas mostly in Southern Baptist Church and felt a call to ministry as a teenager," she says. "My Baptist people were sort of discouraging me to do that, but went on seminary and decided it was going to be really hard to be a pastor because I was a woman." She didn't publish her dissertation about the New Testament scholar Gerard; he's not a New Testament scholar.
