John Rawls' idea of democracy is that people should be able to fairly choose what they really want. In his new book, he argues there's a more democratic alternative in the form of an aristocracy with leaders who inspire the best in the people. John Adams and Orestis Brownson were both admirers of U.S. founding system as it incorporates meaningful will of the people but also takes account of minority interests.
