How to Make Desire a Defense Against Anxiety
Bruce Fink: Focus less on what the analyst says they want and focus more on moments of affective intensity in their speech. The job of the analyst is to establish a place in the subject where these affective intensities can find a home, he says. He suggests that if desire is a defense against anxiety, anxiety can be a defense against enjoyment.
