Chamberlain and Hitler - A New Kind of Diplomacy
Chamberlain was begging for peace on bended knee. Hitler really saw in Chamberlain a version of the people, the conservatives. They agreed to meet again at Baguadesburg on the Rhine. The friendship persuaded the Czechs to make some territorial concessions. But then führer does his usual shifting of the goalposts. He's going to occupy the Sudetenland forthwith. It is at this moment that Chamberlain reaches his moment of clarity. Adolf Hitler is insane. As the weary Prime Minister flies home he imagines bombers raising London.
