Cebelius' Sonata Form: A Masterstroke
Sonata form is an extremely standard form for the first movement of classical era and romantic era large scale works. Cebelius uses the tutti to take those 6 notes and to re-purpose them into his second theme, rather than coming up with something completely new. The idea of almost a battle of wills between the soloists and the orchestra took hold in modern concerto writing. In terms of a meeting of craft and passion, this tutti is a masterstroke.
