Hertzog is one of the leading lights of the new german sinema that emerged in the 19 70s. His obsessions tend too, tend to be with the ends of the earth. There's always some sort of sense of great challenge and adventure awaiting on the cliff edge. And so, of course, dracula lends hitself to that, because so many of the characters involved just simply go mad.
