When you're stuck, what's available to you right now? What is it that you're looking at a wall? In my case, in that particular situation, I thought, well, okay, nobody's going to hire me. The New York Times is not hiring me, but there's another way in. A lot of what you read in newspapers and magazines are written by freelancers. They're independent contractors who have generally pitched a single story and an editor has said yes to it. And then they go out and they report that single story. So why don't I start doing that?"
