Ada woke to find a rop fleshy pumpkin sitting on her back steps, just outside the kitchen door. Those weird, black veined vines wrapped around the handrails, delicate tendrils reaching toward her door knob. They had begun to creep up the back side of the house, grasping for purchase along the edges of her window panes and shutters,. twining around her posts and gutters. Garry offered to help cut away the vines that had reached the house, and she accepted. By halloween morning, however, the pumpkin vines had returned.
