The Peacock's Tail and Sexual Relationships
Darwin hypothesized that the peacock's tail had grown so enormously large and elaborate because females had chosen males with large and elaborate text. This was known as sexual selection theory, but particularly female selection version of sexual selection theory. And it came back into fashion in the 1980s with the work of other scientists showing that if you exaggerated the size of the tail of a widow bird, it was more likely to achieve mateings with females. But there's another aspect to the theory which I still, which I had a preference for actually, which I think is still part of the story.
