The Rivalry Between Edom and Israel Continues
The rivalry between edom and israel will continue in history, also being expressed in the actions of haman, the agagite and the idamians at the fall of jerusalem. D edom had first received the name edom in genesis chapter 25, verse 30 when he had sought some of jacob's red red stew from him. Some commentators have speculated that esau thought that the stew was a forbidden blood stew,. In addition to playing off the term for red and likely the name adam, also the name edam was close to the word for blood - dam ezekiel's prophecy plays with this near homophone four times.
