The Seyghum Ostro paradox highlights the fact that it may be naive to think that anything transcends the pettiness of human politics. I think if we do find ourselves voyaging into the cosposs or exploring the solar system, then we're going to find ourselves wherever we end up. The history of societies expanding and encountering strange new situations isn't a whitewash, happy one here on Earth. It's very easy to think about these things as if technology will triumph and we don't have to worry about the rest.
