The History of the Novel in the Capitalist Era

Lukancho's idea of novel as an example of literary form in the capitalist era may not hold true anymore. He says each historical epoch or you know what a Marxist might call each mode of production has its main or leading or orienting form of epic literature and this is for him the novel. The novel moves quite swiftly from being a novelty to being popular to being the dominant form but it does not relinquish that position even though other literary forms recede into minor status. But now people are starting to notice that the novel too seems to be losing its purchase as this dominant or orienting sort of art form, he writes.
