The U.S. has always been pretty comfortable with tough tactics I mean well before the Cold War certainly the conquest of Native American land is not you know sort of a matter of of genteel politeness. If it's a new Cold War very likely there'll be a tough and brutal edge to it. Given the nature of the war and the fact that all these various actors have very metra-excursively goals and high-stakes nature is it even possible for an outcome besides the total victory to end the war?
