But by the end of the play when he has become the new leader of Thebes, I think we get a glimpse of the Creon who is going to emerge as tyrant - and there's at least the final line about Edipus no longer ruler of this city. In most productions, commentators on the play will say, this is a signal that Creon,. who is either proto tyrant elsewhere, or indeed an actual tyrant, is emerging in the final moments of the play.
