The catholic church was very critical of both liberalism as a form of government and americanism, which actually, in the late nineteenth century, was deemed its own heresy. And it was only after world war too, in the holycost being revealed, that the church began a couple decade long project of trying to re evaluate things. This is the beginning of what i called lumping. So you end up with this position that the catholic church is somehow, at a deep level, contiguous with, continuous with American democracy rights.
