The International Human Gene Editing Summit was held in London a few months ago. We heard about how one person's debilitating sickle cell anemia had been cured by re-editing her blood stem cells but also we heard about the invasive and risky surgery involved in getting those stem cells out and then transplanting them back in. How much better it would be if you could leave those stem cells where they are and get the editing machinery to them.
