Many blue collar workers, students and pensioners are unable to afford things like meat or some basic household necessities. Young professionals are thinking of leaving Turkey; three thousand doctors have emigrated since the start of the year. One was a retired nurse who said that at the end of the month, the only food she could afford to make for herself and her two sons was a dish of pasta without so much as a drop of olive oil.
